Dear ASEE K12 and Precollege Division Members,

Greetings!  I hope this message finds you well.  Perhaps you are enjoying the last weeks of summer or if you’re like me, you’re already back to the classroom and research.

I am very excited to be the new Chair of the division.  I hope that my service to you, the division, and ASEE will help to promote engineering education and improve the quality of education for all students.  I want to begin my official duties by thanking Liz Parry for all of her work and service to the division.  She has been a tremendously powerful advocate for us and our work, setting the bar extremely high for me!  I am thrilled that she will remain very active in our division’s work and leadership as past-chair.

My primary goal for my work is to continue in Liz’s goal of making the K12 Division the “go-to” place for K12 engineering education nationally.  I have established some committees that were discussed at the Division’s business meeting.  For now, I will simply list them, but I will soon be following up with you about each of their specific goals and how to get involved.

  • NGSS Implementation – Engineering
  • Awards – Fellows, Best Paper, Division Awards, etc.
  • K12 Teacher Membership & Involvement
  • ASEE Keynote Speaker and Sunday Workshops
  • Division Publication
  • K12 Workshop – Saturday prior to conference

The 2014 Annual Conference Call for Proposals is now complete thanks to great leadership from our new Program Chair, Sharlene Yang.  She will be sending that out to the division shortly.  Abstracts are due by September 21, so start thinking now about your submission!

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly with information that should be shared with the division or if you have questions or concerns about division work.  It’s easiest to reach me by email at stacy.klein-gardner@vanderbilt.edu.  I’ll look forward to communicating with you in this newsletter format every two weeks.

With best regards,
Stacy
