ASEE K12 Division Newsletter
October 1, 2014
Dear ASEE K12 and Precollege Engineering Division Members,
It’s that time to be working on your abstracts for the 2015 Annual Conference in Seattle! The proposal system is now open for your abstracts. Be sure to follow the guidelines in the call for proposals and submit no later than October 19.
If you are willing to serve as a reviewer for the 2015 annual conference (whether you can attend or not!), please contact our program chair, Merredith Portsmore, at mportsmo@tufts.edu <mailto:mportsmo@tufts.edu> . We need as many reviewers as possible to minimize the workload for each of us.
Aiming high with your ASEE paper this year? Check out the rubric used to judge the best papers: http://www.asee.org/conferences-and-events/conferences/annual-conference/2015/2015_ASEE_Best_PIC_Paper_and_Best_Conference_Paper_Competitions_Rubric.pdf.
The executive board has agreed to support the Diversity Booth at the ASEE Conference in 2015. Have any suggestions for what our role can be in that booth? Let me or Diversity Committee Chair, Morgan Hynes, know!
Headquarters is working away on improvements to the Monolith system that is used in the manuscript submission process. New for this year are the following features:
o “Exceptions” to the full registration requirement for papers with all student member authors have now been coded automatically (this was previously handled by exception upon request, but not everyone knew to request it).
o When registering for the conference, members can more easily see how to schedule ticketed sessions to have the ticket prices included in the registration invoice.
o ASEE Conferences staff are working on wireless options for the Seattle conference. The Seattle Convention Center already has free wireless in public areas. Additional wireless access is prohibitively expensive (hundreds of dollars per attendee), but they are trying to negotiate a reasonable daily rate for attendees who need to purchase additional internet access.
o Monolith will email coauthors when papers are accepted, rejected, ready for draft, and need revision.
o In Monolith, coauthors can now see whether all (other) authors have uploaded their bios.
o Monolith will email authors of rejected papers when the paper is rejected so they know to login and view the feedback.
The College of Engineering, Computer Science, and Technology at California State University, Los Angeles (Cal State LA) invites applications for the Associate Dean position, as well as tenure-track faculty positions in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. More information on the College and the University, and links to the full position announcements can be found at: http://web.calstatela.edu/academic/position/csla_cecst.php
Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly with information that should be shared with the division or if you have questions or concerns about division work. It’s easiest to reach me by email at stacy.klein-gardner@vanderbilt.edu. I’ll look forward to communicating with you in this newsletter format every two weeks.
With best regards,
Stacy
