Thoughts from the Chair

There are two PCEE things of note on my mind.
1) I am thrilled that the annual P-12 Educator Conference that takes place on the Saturday prior to the annual conference is returning this year! The committee has been hard at work and created a wonderful new partnership and format for this event which will have over 200 K-12 teachers in attendance!! and
2) Two valuable reports that will assist us in our work have been released in the past month. Information and links to them are provided below.

PreK-12 Educator Workshop – Seeking Session Proposals

The annual PreK-12 Educator Workshop will be taking place on Saturday June 15, 2019.  It has a slightly modified name (P-12 Educator Conference) and exciting new format!

Do you have an interactive and engaging classroom activity appropriate for elementary, middle, or high schools students? We are looking for dynamic and interactive presentations to be delivered to over 200 P-12 teachers in the Tampa area focused on early learner engineering, project-based learning, design thinking, sustainability, and other related topics. We will also be having the Curriculum Showcase at the end of the day. Please use the following links for more information and to submit your presenter and/or showcase application. Proposals are due by February 24, 2019.

Science and Engineering for Grades 6-12: Investigation and Design at the Center, a consensus study report that addresses what science investigations and engineering design should look like in classrooms that are aligned with NGSS.

Description:

It is essential for today’s students to learn about science and engineering in order to make sense of the world around them and participate as informed members of a democratic society. The skills and ways of thinking that are developed and honed through engaging in scientific and engineering endeavors can be used to engage with evidence in making personal decisions, to participate responsibly in civic life, and to improve and maintain the health of the environment, as well as to prepare for careers that use science and technology.

Charting a Course for Success: America’s Strategy for STEM Education

Released on December 4th, the Committee on STEM Education of the National Science & Technology Council report “sets out a Federal strategy for the next five years based on a Vision for a future where all Americans will have lifelong access to high-quality STEM education and the United State will be the global leader in STEM literacy, innovation, and employment.

The School of Engineering Education at Purdue University invites applications for multiple tenure-track positions at the rank of assistant or associate levels. Purdue University seeks to attract exceptional candidates with interests and expertise in engineering education research ranging from pre-kindergarten through college and into engineering practice. Commensurate with rank, new faculty will be expected to develop (or continue to develop) a nationally or internationally recognized, externally-funded research program in engineering education, advise graduate students, teach graduate and undergraduate level courses – including in first-year engineering, Multidisciplinary Engineering, or Interdisciplinary Engineering Studies programs – and perform service at the School, University, and professional society levels.
