Thoughts from the Chair
As I step into my new role as the Division Chair, I’d like to first start by thanking Pam Lottero-Perdue for the outstanding leadership that she provided to the division over the past two years as the chair. Her vision, drive and and dedication to having our bylaws reflect the division’s current status and direction have put us onto an extremely strong foundation. I’m glad that she will continue on as the immediate past chair, continuing to share her wisdom and passion for excellence in PreK-12 Engineering Education.
The area that I am excited to expand and grow within our division is the social media aspect – making sure that we create a vibrant community and method to communicate and share with everyone the great work that we all do for PreK-12 learners and educators. If this sounds like something that you’d like to be part of, please consider joining the new Social Media or send me your ideas. I’d like to hear from you about what would be useful!!

Get Involved! Join a PCEE Committee!
This year there are several committees that you can volunteer to join. The committee work is a fun way to get to know more of the PCEE members and help the division accomplish things. If you are interested in being on one of these committees, please email me, Martha Cyr (martha.cyr@gmail.com) and say which committee(s) you are interested in joining.
The committees are:
Awards – help identify potential PCEE Division award recipients and review nominations
Branding Logistics – we have our brand, but need a good way to keep track of our banner and other materials as they get shipped to different events.
Distinguished Lecturer – help identify potential presenters to speak as the distinguished lecturer at the annual conference
Diversity – promote and share best practices for increasing and supporting diversity throughout the year
Fiscal Initiatives – assist the division with specific programs that use our division funds to support our mission
Program Committee – help the Program Chair with the division’s sessions in preparation for the annual conference
Social Media – identify and help build the social media platforms that the division will use
Website/Blog – help to keep our communications fresh and vibrant
Wednesday Workshops – help to identify which workshops should run on the final day of the annual conference
2018 ASEE Annual Conference
To help you plan for abstract submission to the 2018 conference that will be held in Salt Lake City, Utah from June 24-27, we’d like to share the following dates with you:
Monday September 4th – Abstract submission open for Papers, Workshops, Panels, and Special Sessions.
Monday October 16th – Abstract submissions close.
SPECIAL NOTE: The PCEE Division has a new requirement associated with submissions. If you submit an abstract, you will also be expected to review at least one abstract and paper. Failure to complete the assigned abstract and paper reviews will jeopardize the author’s ability to have future submissions to the PCEE Division accepted.

STEM Networks Inventory Project!
Advancing STEM education is central to the mission of many professional organizations – ASEE being a leader in that effort. STEM networks are mechanisms that advance partnerships and, hence, opportunities for high quality STEM education and career development. In the effort to open more access to the activities and programs available in each state, a team of researchers from Virginia Tech and the Teaching Institute for Excellence in STEM (TIES), funded by the Association for Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) and the Network of STEM Education Centers (NSEC), has launched project to inventory the networks that are operating in all of the US states and territories. In order to ensure that we are as comprehensive as possible, we need your help!
We are conducting a very brief survey to identify the networks across this nation. A network is defined as a formalized cross-sector partnership to advance science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) educational opportunities. By cross-sector, we mean multiple (i.e., 2 or more) stakeholder groups (i.e., higher education, P-12, business/industry, community and/or government agencies, etc.) intentionally working together to advance STEM education in a city, region, state, across states, etc. The survey is designed to capture the information for up to 10 networks. You can share information about one or more based on your available time. It takes only about 5 minutes (really) to complete the items related to each network. We value your time and would appreciate what you can contribute. All responses are anonymous and will be aggregated across all submissions. Click here to complete the survey. The first round of results will be made public by the end of September, 2017 through the websites or listservs of the professional organizations who are participated), as well as the Office of Research and Educational Outreach located in the School of Education at Virginia Tech. Assistant/Associate Teaching Professor – First Year Engineering
The College of Engineering at Northeastern University invites applications to join the first-year faculty team, whose main role is teaching first-year engineering students. This is a full-time, benefits eligible, non-tenure-track position, as an Assistant or Associate Teaching Professor, depending on teaching experience level. Appointments are made on an annual 8 month basis, salary commensurate with experience. More details available here.
