Don’t forget that proposals for the National Science Teachers Association’s (NSTA) Annual Conference for 2016 will be held in Nashville, TN. I want to encourage any of you doing K12 engineering in the classroom to submit proposals to this conference, linking your work to NGSS engineering. The conference will be held March 31-April 3, 2016. But as is normal for NSTA, the session proposals are due April 15 of this year! You can find more information here as well as a link to their proposal system: http://www.nsta.org/conferences/sessions.aspx. If your session is accepted, please let me know and we will assemble and publicize the lineup of ASEE-affiliated sessions.
Start Engineering has recently published Engineering Outreach on Campus, an analysis of survey results from over 100 engineering outreach programs run by colleges and universities. The first paper from this project is out and available for download at: www.start-engineering/start-engineering-now. It includes results from dozens of ASEE member schools. The report looks at the reasons people cite for running their outreach programs and the audiences they reach. Results show big numbers of participants and a strong focus on diversity. Upcoming releases from the project will examine the types of events programs offer and approaches to administration, including budget, staffing, and assessment. Comments and questions are welcome.
