Dear ASEE K12 and Precollege Engineering Division Members,
As you’re starting to make concrete plans for your schedule during the upcoming annual conference, I hope you’ll be sure to mark your calendar for key K12 Division meetings and social gatherings. I’ve included a table under item 1 of the big events.
The K12 Division is still in need of moderators for our sessions during the annual conference. If you are planning to attend, why not take on this relatively simple but important leadership role? Item 2 describes the obligations in full detail. To help out, please contact our program chair, Sharlene Yang, at sharleneyang@yahoo.com, just as quickly as you possibly can.
As our national conference draws nearer, I hope you will take advantage of ASEE’s new social media opportunities. ASEE has created a Facebook page to help our division members stay in touch via social media at our annual conference. This link will take you to the group page for our division. After joining the group, members can post messages to share division-related events at the conference, facilitate get-togethers in Indianapolis, upload files, and collaborate. In addition, ASEE encourages us to follow the ASEE Conferences twitter page here: https://twitter.com/ASEEConferences. They’ll be having contests and other activities around social media during the conference.
Registration for ASEE K12 Workshop is open. It will be held Saturday, June 14, at the Indianapolis Convention Center. Take advantage of discounted rates now, and please encourage K12 teachers you know to attend! More information is below in item 3.
Do you work with Hispanic 12th graders? If so, be sure to look at the information in item 4 below about the HEENAC scholarships. TODAY is the deadline for this application.
Looking for a new and exciting job? Check out item 5 about a position within Purdue’s EPICS program.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly with information that should be shared with the division or if you have questions or concerns about division work. It’s easiest to reach me by email at stacy.klein-gardner@vanderbilt.edu.
All the best,
Stacy

Hello, ASEE K-12 Division member:
All of the finalized papers have now been assigned to a session. The only thing left is to assign a moderator to each session. I am writing because I am hoping that if you are planning to attend the 2014 ASEE Annual Conference in Indianapolis you will volunteer to be a moderator for one of the K-12 Division paper sessions.
The responsibilities of a session moderator are:
- To help speakers with troublesome AV equipment by either calling the AV tech at the conference or me (the Program Chair)
- Make sure the session starts on-time.
- Introduce each of the speakers before their presentation (I will send you copies of papers with bios for your assigned session).
- Keep track of each speakers allotted time and make sure they do not run over by explicitly telling each of the speakers how much time they have and giving five minute warnings.
- Moderate the Q & A session by making sure that it is conducted in an orderly way.
For those of you who are interested in helping out by moderating a session, you might consider signing up for a session that you are already planning on attending.
Please let me know three sessions you are interested in moderating by sending me the session numbers, dates and times by this Friday April 25 at 5 PM EST. If you are presenting at the conference, please keep your presentation’s date and time in mind and do not sign up to moderate a session that is at the same time.
If you have any questions, please contact me at sharleneyang@yahoo.com. Thanks in advance for your help with this!
Best regards,
Sharlene Yang
