Hello, K-12 and Precollege colleagues!

I hope this finds you well.  Thanks to all who submitted abstracts for the 2012 ASEE Annual Conference!  The K-12 and Precollege Division received 165 abstracts and they are now under peer review.  Remember, notification of abstract acceptance will take place in early December with draft papers due just after the New Year.  Detailed information can be found at http://www.asee.org/conferences-and-events/conferences/annual-conference/2012/program-schedule/call-for-papers.

Proposals for the ASEE K-12 Workshop, held on Saturday prior to the conference, can be submitted beginning November 1. (More information is below).  Please consider attending and sharing your expertise with teachers and colleagues at this popular event.

The program will take shape as paper review and acceptance is complete but please make note of one important change we are instituting for the 2012 conference.  The Division’s business meeting, open to ALL K-12 and Precollege members and those interested in joining, will be a breakfast meeting at 7 am on Monday, June 11, 2012. Our division’s impact is directly tied to the involvement of our members and this meeting is an important way to personally contribute to our Division’s plan of work but also to meet colleagues and potential collaborators in K-12 and Precollege Engineering.   Please put this meeting on your schedule and start your conference with us. 🙂

There is a wealth of information in today’s message.  In a break from the usual, here is an 8 page PDF from the Congressional Research Service that gives a comprehensive snapshot of current STEM policy happenings at the federal level.  Remember, this is a moving target regarding specific bills and actions, but it does a good job of looking at the broader landscape and I think will be of interest to our membership.
Look for information below on:

  • NSTA STEM Forum and Expo Call for Proposal (open now)
  • Position Announcement:  Tufts McDonnell Family Endowed Professorship in Engineering Education

Thanks for your time.  I sincerely appreciate it and what you are doing to further K-12 and Precollege Engineering Education.
As always, please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.
