Dear K-12 Colleagues,
Are you looking for a way to stay engaged in K-12 engineering this summer? Have a few hours to help out a K-12 engineering colleague? We may have a match for your interest, time, and skills!
We recently sent out a call to the ASEE K-12 Division to members who need help advising programs, reviewing curricular resources, or teaching/participating in workshops this summer. The following is a list of opportunities and job postings that were returned.
We received a good response to our initial request. If you would like to post a K-12 job position or opportunity for free, please email a short description of the announcement to malinda.zarske@colorado.edu.
Best Regards,
Malinda

Help Wanted: Algae as a Biofuel
Ohio Northern University is in the process of developing a new curriculum to lead K-12 students from ‘The Biology of Algae’ through designing their own bioreactor; The Biology of Algae (the introductory module) is to be taught for the first time this summer to teacher(s), K-12 students (and some adult learners). Funding is available, class to be taught at a new community school that focuses on renewable energy, curriculum developers are available to help and collaborate with you, and ongoing remote collaboration over the academic year is possible if you are interested. No prior algae experience necessary!

The CK-12 Foundation has funded the seed development of an open-source textbook titled “Engineering: An Introduction for High School;” a current draft of the book is available under a Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike license at http://authors.ck12.org/wiki/index.php/Engineering:_An_Introduction_for_High_School. Using processes similar to those used to develop open source software, I would like to explore the establishment of a community to use and further develop this book (specifically) and resources for engineering education (generally). If you are interested in participating or getting more information, please contact Darryl Morrell at morrell@asu.edu or 480-727-1123.

Reviewers needed! — Every lesson and activity on the TeachEngineering Digital Library is reviewed by an educator and an engineer. The educator is asked to use our K-12 Review Rubric to evaluate the quality of the lesson/activity and its suitability for the classroom. The engineer is asked to evaluate the accuracy and depth of engineering content in the lesson/activity using our Engineering Content Review Rubric. Visit http://www.teachengineering.org/new_reviewer.php to apply to serve on the National Board of TeachEngineering Reviewers. For additional information, contact Paul Klenk at pak@duke.edu.
